How long are your family sessions?
Family sessions are generally around 40-60 minutes. Smaller families of 1-5 people closer to 30 minutes with bigger groups averaging around 40-60 min. We'll get a mix of big group shots and smaller family combinations. Posed and candids.
Will you give us direction and help pose us?
Of course! You are not expected to know what to do in front of the camera :) I will have plenty of poses/ideas in mind and happy to guide you through them and make you feel comfortable! It will be fun, relaxed, natural, and painless!
How many pictures will we receive?
Wedding: You can expect roughly 100-150 fully edited images per hour of photography coverage.
Family: Typically around 75-150 images in the gallery depending on family group size.
When will we get our photos?
Family: You will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within 5-10 days (sometimes less depending on season).
Wedding: You'll receive online gallery link 1-3 weeks from your wedding day.
How do we access our photos?
I will email an online gallery link to view and download your photos. You'll be able to download the photos individually or all at once. You can also purchase a USB drive for $50+ tax.
Do you edit the photos?
Definitely! All photos in your gallery will be color corrected for the proper skin tones, cropped/straightened. Some converted to black and white. Additional retouching will be done on tighter portraits as well as removing distracting background elements. I don't retouch Uncle Joe breakdancing on the dance floor, but definitely retouch the framer shots!
When is the best time to do family portraits?
The lighting is best around sunrise - 2 hours after and then again 1-2 hours before sunset. I usually book 1-2 family portraits a day and for evening shoots we'll want to start roughly an hour before sunset for optimal lighting, cooler temps, less people on the beach.
For family photography, will you travel to us?
Yes, absolutely. Happy to travel to your property. I can also suggest a scenic location if you don't mind making a short drive. Just let me know where you're staying and I can suggest a nearby location. Please note there is a small travel fee for me to head up to Corolla. We can also meet at one of my fav spots in Kitty Hawk or Kill Devil Hills for no travel fee!
What if the weather doesn't cooperate?
We'll find another time or day that week to shoot! I want to ensure you get beautiful photographs. If we have significant rain and/or wind I'll reach out with alternative times to shoot. Extremely rare, but in the event I can't find a time to reschedule, your deposit will be refunded.
How do we reserve the date?
When you're ready to reserve the wedding date/family session time, I'll send a deposit link to book online. You'll receive an email reminder for the remaining balance.
Weddings: A 50% deposit and signed contract reserves your date. The remaining balance is due a week prior to the event.
Family Photography: A $150 deposit reserves the date. The remaining balance is due day of the shoot.
For weddings, do you bring an assistant?
I have been photographing weddings here on the OBX for over 15 years! I feel very comfortable photographing weddings without a second shooter, but you can certainly add a 2nd a la carte. This is recommended for larger weddings (150+ ppl) and weddings where couples are getting ready in separate locations and you want photos of both getting ready. Typically I am with the bride and my second shooter would meet up with the guys. But if both Br and Gr are getting ready in same location I can bounce back and forth.
What equipement do you use?
I use the very best Sony mirrorless cameras and a variety of professional grade lenses.
Pet friendly?
Oh yea, I am comfortable around animals and you're more than welcome to bring your furry family members to the shoot. We'll likely want to get some with and some without, esp if they happen to be distracting you.
Do you do photography full time?
Sure do! I've been doing photography full-time here on the Outer Banks since 2008!
